The Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Race
2020 will kick off at West Lake on
November 14th, 2020.
Long ago, dragon boat races were key cultural events in the land of the Flying Dragon during the Tet festival and national events. To revive this tradition, Vietnam Airlines in partnership with the Hanoi People’s Committee are honored to host the Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Race 2020. Held during the chilly days of early winter in November, this race is also a celebration of the 1,010 birthday of our beloved Thang Long – Hanoi.
Thirty years ago, the capital’s denizens used to look forward to Tet or national holidays, for on those occasions, dragon boats would race on Hoan Kiem Lake or Bay Mau Lake. This same spirit came back to life three years ago as dragon boat races were held in Hanoi for the first time in many years, bringing a thrilling pace, formidable rowers, and indescribable excitement.

With its unique attraction as a sport and a tradition, the annual race never fails to capture the public’s attention. This year especially, this race is also an opportunity to embrace cultural values and add good cheer to the new normal.
